Can the Stache Out-Project Mel Kiper (Judgment Day Edition)

First, there was “I Want To Fight Tom Brady” vs. Tom Brady.

Today, there will be Dave Wannstache vs. Mel Kiper. I am going to try and out-project Mr. First Round Projection himself.

If you don’t remember, a couple of months ago I said I was going to wage a competition between myself and Kiper and see whether I can out-project him. Let’s be clear, here. I have no access to the inside information that Kiper has. Furthermore, the man has been doing these mock drafts since the Stone Age, so he has more expertise than I do. But, I fancy myself as more than a casual NFL fan, so I think I can hold my own.

Here are the rules. We’ll be using The Huddle Report’s scoring system. One point for each player correctly placed in the first round, and an additional two points for players matched to the correct team.

The tough part about doing a projection is that you know trades are going to mess everything up. Once a trade happens, it creates a domino effect, and your mock draft goes to hell. Initially, I was thinking about doing a projection with a few trades mixed in, but since Kiper’s does not, I decided to do mine straight up in order to play on an even playing field. Without further ado, let’s go to the table:

Feel free to leave predictions or comments about the draft in this post. Enjoy it, cause it's the one slice of football you get until training camp in July.

I'm impressed. And you've got balls too, going against the "highly likely" pick of Balmer, according to the PG. I hope you're right though. Not only because I want Groves more, but also because I enjoy seeing newspapers (and Kiper) with the inside info lose out to a blogger.

I can't see Balmer. Just doesn't seem like a Tomlin type of player. He's an underachiever.

I will say this, there are a lot of rumors coming out of Pittsburgh that the Steelers really like Jerod Mayo. I don't think it makes sense, but, I would not be shocked if he were the pick if he's still on the board. That kind of goes a little against what I said in my post yesterday.

Wanny you are the man. I love that you always have the guts to do these types of things. We'll change the name of the blog to Doubt About Kiper for a day if you win.

Hey, I'm happy to do it.

The NFL Draft is the one offseason event I look forward to the most. Add to the fact that this one seems so wide open, and it just adds to the intrigue.

Kiper is 2 for 5, about right for him. Draft expert my ass. As for us, I hope we stay away from Groves and Balmer. We don't need a hybrid DE in the 3-2, and I think we are OK at DT. I think we have to go OL or for a big RB. WR would also be a mistake I think. I just hope they don't repeat Last years.

I hate the Patriots.

I also don't get everyones hatred of Balmer. Steelers nation won't be too happy with the selection of a RB, though. All the yinzers will be saying we already have Fast Will.

Ha! You kicked Kiper's ass with your first 6 picks.

I can't stand Kiper, he's just a Ravens homer who was hoping Matt Ryan would drop to #8.

Trades have messed me up a bit... but I'm still doing ok.

This stretch right here could ruin any offensive line plans the Steelers may have.

I got you winning by a count of 48-35 stache. The Dallas picks are hard to score, but either way, you beat Kiper.
