I Want to Fight Ilya Kovalchuck

If you didn't have a chance to catch the Penguins-Thrashers game last night, then you probably don't understand where I'm coming from. SportsCenter has been pretty much all over the story this morning, but Ilya Kovalchuck is a bitch, and I'm proud to say that I hate him more than Tom Brady.

Last night, after scoring a goal, Kovalchuck proceeded to turn to the entire Penguin bench, and pump his fist in their face. The move was downright unsportsmanlike. I wish I had the video, but this video of Kovalchuck taunting Crosby, after a goal in 2006, is worthy enough. (skip ahead to the 2:40 mark)

Anyways, the real juicy news comes when Ilya is reminded by Jarkko Ruutu that 'Yes, this is the sport of hockey'.

So yeah...Kovalchuck is not only a bitch, but a puss too. The common rule in sport: Celebrate with your teammates. Hes just lucky Therrien didn't let big Georges Laraque out of his cage.

Anyway, last night's event has officially brought Ilya Kovalchuck to #1 on my fight list, but fortunately enough I don't have to challenge him to a fight. I'll just let the paid professionals take care of this one.

Don't you just love hockey?

Don't know if I agree with this one...

Ruutu on an all-star? I'm not buying it. I'm not trying to say what Kovy did was right, but if some scrub on another team tried to run Sid or Malkin, for whatever reason, you'd be pissed.

In this situation, you need one of your top 6 forwards to handle this business. I mean Kovy has had a few questionable hits and a scrap or 2 this year, so he deserves what he gets, but he didn't to get banged up because he taunted.

It's not fair to Atlanta, it's not good for hockey, and all it does is show that the Pens top guns will hide behind a few physical guys.

If Sid or Malkin taunt the opposing team, they deserve to get hit. End of story.

Celebrating is one thing. Taunting is a another.

If Sid or Malkin taunt, they deserve to get hit...by a guy of equal caliber.

Having Ruutu answer for the team? To me that is the equivalent of Claude turtling when McCarty tried to make him pay for his actions.

Kovy didn't care about Ruutu. After all he's just a dude that didn't live up to the hype in Vancouver....Kovy called out the Pens stars when he taunted, and as expected, they "turtled" at the chance to prove him wrong. They didn't retaliate on the scoreboard and they didn't retaliate physically. It's what separates Stanley Cup contenders from first round exits. As of right now my only plans are to watch the struggling Pirates come May and June, because by that time the bratty, uninspired kids from Juniors will be out of the playoffs and there will be talk that their AHL-caliber head coach will be canned.
